Traditional Blue and White

My parents home was included in the Bethany Beach, DE house tour benefiting the local library this past week so I flew in to help with styling the house. The theme was traditional blue and white with a little bit of coastal in order to showcase my mothers collection of blue and white porcelain and chinaware. Ten homes were included in the tour and over 2500 tickets were sold on this very hot two day house tour. Thanks to the volunteers who helped make this event a success. Below are some pictures of the flowers and table settings we styled for the event. Enjoy!
A local artist painted these wooden replicas of each house in the tour. Super cute!!!
We used all white flowers to showcase the blue and white porcelain and added shell place card holders and shells in the hurricanes for a coastal touch.
The starfish napkin rings also added a coastal touch and a little bit of bling for the table. We skipped the table runner and just used blue place mats for more color but a colorful table runner would look great as well.

The blue and white continued on the living room desk. This round vase is the perfect size for so many different flowers
Some additional coastal touches in the family room
We carried the blue and white on to the kitchen breakfast table and added a some coral and pink napkins for a summery compliment to the blue.
I love these blue and white porcelain shell napkin rings for the coastal touch for the breakfast table

Fourth of July Party Tip List

I shared detailed tips here last week from my 4th of July shoot with Toujours Magazine and have a few more tips and sources to share. As you prepare for your 4th of July festivities keep in mind some of these tips to make your patriotic bash extra special for your guests. Check out the full Toujours Magazine article here for more patriotic party ideas. Enjoy!

1. Skip the boring white napkins and clear glass and instead pull out your colorful glassware for your signature drink. Find similar blue glasses at Anthropologie. Stop by your local party store and pick up fun red white and blue napkins. I found these cuties at Party City.

2. Whether you are having a sit down dinner or a buffet, mix in woven table runners or place mats along with your colorful table linens to add texture for creating a rich layered table. You can find these textured treasures at Pottery Barn and Ikea.

3.  Simple white flowers sparkle in red or blue vases. This vintage blue glass vase was an eye catcher with the fluffy white peonies. West Elm has a blue hexagon vase available that would also work. If you only have white or clear vases, choose bright red and blue flowers so that the table has a powerful punch.

Happy 4th of July!! Check out more 4th of July inspirations on my Pinterest page.

Behind the Scenes: Patriotic Party Guide

The Summer Guide Cover... the rest of the issue will be out soon
I am super excited to share the 4th of July patriotic party feature that came out in Toujours Magazine today. I am sharing additional shots that didn't make it into the magazine and dishing out additional tips to help you easily prepare for all of the upcoming 4th of July festivities. Be sure to check out the full Toujours Magazine Summer Guide for all the detailed tips.  I had a blast coming up with the red, white and blue theme that you can rock all summer long. I shot this feature with Toujours co-founder and photographer Meghan Beierle-O'Brien at one of my clients homes on a perfect sunny Los Angeles afternoon. It never feels like work when I am shooting with Meghan :). Hope this inspires you to throw a patriotic bash this summer! Happy 4th of July!

DESSERT:  Double up your red and blue cupcake liners so the color is more intense. Create your own cupcake designs with blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. Use a white cake stand so that the cupcake liners stand out. Purchase your favorite red, white and blue candy and fill in glass containers you already own. I LOVE Twizzlers, peanut M&M's and Tootsie Pops for this color scheme.  I used a footed clear glass for the pops to give varying heights to the table.

BAR:  Creating a colorful red signature drink is a MUST. They always seem to increase the fun factory at a party.  I used drink stirrers in this shot with blue glasses but you can change those out for pieces of watermelon or strawberry as a garnish.  To prevent stains, use outdoor fabric as an overlay. Repeat the florals used on the buffet and dessert tables for consistency. Mix different shades of blue for a fun color scheme that isn't boring.

BUFFET:  Skip the expected checkered tablecloth for a more sophisticated patterned one in any shade of blue and white. There is an abundance of red florals so using a blue/white tablecloth works the best. I used white peonies and blue hydrangea for their fullness along with simple red roses. These flowers are also very easy to assemble which saves some time.

Comment below and let me know how you are celebrating the 4th this year!
